Christian Bale Will Not Captain Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah' (UPDATE)

It looks like Noah's Ark is going to set sail without Christian Bale. According to Deadline, the 'Dark Knight Rises' star is shooting the Terrence Malick-directed films 'Lawless' and 'Knight of Cups,' back to back, which would conflict with the production dates on 'Noah,' which Darren Aronofsky co-wrote with John Logan ('Gladiator') and will direct. The movie is a retelling of the classic Biblical storyline, presumably without heroin needles, space travel or ballerinas with tortured souls. 'Noah' is set to hit theaters in 2013. UPDATE: Per Variety, Michael Fassbender could replace Bale in 'Noah,' but no offer has been made yet. Just keep that in mind for future reference. Bryan Singer Will Meet The Munsters

He'll produce and direct the pilotThough he's usually to be found directing movies, Bryan Singer does occasionally flirt with TV: he crafted the pilot for House and his name is still on the show as an executive producer, and he's also been involved with a few other, less successful shows. Now he's been tempted back by Bryan Fuller's planned reboot of The Munsters.Fuller, who last produced Pushing Daisies, has been attached to the project for a while, cooking up what's being described as "a visually spectacular one-hour drama" as opposed to the original's sitcom format. The plot is likely to still revolve around Frankenstein's monster-alike Herman, vampiric wife Lily and their family as they make their way in the world. We're fans of both Bryans, but was the world really, truly crying out for a new take on the blue-collar answer to the Addams Family? The 1960s show certainly had its following, managing a solid run of 70 episodes, and has been reworked several times in the years since, but it'll take a hefty amount of re-tooling to make it work for today's TV audiences. Still, you could have said that about Battlestar Galactica and that worked out. Side note: the new Munsters is a quirky project and will be on the NBC network across the pond. Fuller already took one shot at the project and has had to redevelop it for the new executive team. Given the channel's recent history of launching and dropping new shows, we give it one season at most, even with Singer aboard. The director's next film, Jack The Giant Killer, will be out on June 15, 2012.

Daniel Radcliffe Could Play Allen Ginsberg In 'Kill Your Darlings'

Serta Radcliffe might be concentrating on a script nobody may decide to see, but his next can be a movie we're certainly considering. Twitch reviews that Radcliffe is allegedly up for negligence Beat poet Allen Ginsberg inside the approaching film "Kill Your Darlings." The role initially belonged to Jesse Eisenberg when the movie was introduced, but sources close to Twitch say Radcliffe appears like it's taking his place. The first sort "Harry Potter" star will apparently get started round the production after he finishes his work on Broadway in "How You Can Achieve Business Without Really Trying." The film, created by author-director John Krokidas, can be a thriller based on actual occasions that happened between famous authors Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and Lucien Carr. Carr is credited to get together Ginsberg, Kerouac and William S Burroughs in friendship, but more youthful crowd infamously offered in time 1944 for killing his lover David Kammerer. It's unclear just what the exact plot in the movie is, but that last little factoid certainly ties towards the film's plot. Chris Evans was stated to become playing Kerouac and Ben Whishaw was installed on play Carr once the flick was introduced, but it's unclear whether or not they continue to be installed on it or whether Krokidas will assemble a completely new cast. It'll be interesting to determine which spin Radcliffe gives round the poet, especially rather than James Franco just playing him inside the well-received movie "Howl." Maybe he'll be capable of interact with Ginsberg inside the fact he's starting to create some excellent poetry. You think Radcliffe is a superb fit for Ginsberg? Summer Games ((Giochi d'estate))

'Summer Games'A Look Now! (in Switzerland) release of a Peacock Film, Classic production, in association with RSI, RSG SSR, Arte. (International sales: Rezo Films, Paris.) Produced by Elena Pedrazzoli, Amedeo Pagani. Executive producer, Ilann Girard. Directed by Rolando Colla. Screenplay, Colla, Roberto Scarpetti, Olivier Lorelle, Pilar Anguita-MacKay, Zoe Galeron. With: Armando Condolucci, Fiorella Campanella, Francesco Huang, Chiara Scolari, Marco d'Orazi, Alessia Barela, Antonio Merone, Roberta Fossile, Aaron Hitz, Monica Cervini, Giorgio Gobbi, Max Zampetti, Michele Napoleone. (Italian, French dialogue)There's nothing new under the sun in "Summer Games," a beautifully shot and mostly well-acted drama that crudely juxtaposes the occasionally overlapping worlds of adults and children at an Italo campground. Latest feature by Rolanda Colla, a Swiss director of Italian descent, is credited to a staggering five screenwriters (including the helmer) but struggles to come up with something original to say; the grown-up characters' pre-divorce bickering in particular amounts to a pileup of threadbare cliches. Good-looking pic will rep Switzerland in the foreign-language Oscar derby and has lined up a few scattered niche theatrical outings in continental Europe. Set at a campsite on the sunny Italian coast, "Games" initially focuses on sulky rebel kid Nic (Armando Condolucci), who's at odds with his somewhat crass working-class dad, Vincenzo (Antonio Merone). They're on vacation with Nic's kid brother, Agostino (Marco d'Orazi), and the boys' mom, Adriana (Alessia Barela), whose marriage to Vincenzo clearly has seen better days. When defending Agostino's honor, Nic (short for Nicola) gets into a scuffle with Marie (Fiorella Campanella), a girl from French-speaking Switzerland who also speaks Italian. She's also on vacation with her family, which includes a younger sibling (Chiara Scolari). As often happens with kids, their mutual animosity is swiftly forgotten when bigger group adventures beckon, namely a rickety shed in a nearby cornfield that becomes the hideout of the two sibling sets and a local kid (Francesco Huang). Though the daredevilry, cruelty and uninhibited nature of the children's games seem somewhat familiar, Colla finds exactly the right tone for this material, remaining observant without becoming sensationalistic, preachy or too detached. Unfortunately, the same can't be said of the film's portrait of Nic's parents, who seem stuck not so much in a loveless marriage as in a basic template of conjugal strife. The way Colla and his small army of writers contrast the overbearing presence of Nic's dad, who has anger-management issues, with the fact that Marie, Nic's potential paramour, has no father, is so on-the-nose it loses any symbolic or subterranean impact. After a somewhat wobbly start, young Condolucci grows into his role and gets some strong scenes in which he becomes the narrative linchpin, embodying that difficult age when kids become aware that some things their parents do aren't right, but haven't come into their own enough to forthrightly dismiss authority. Opposite him, Campanella is less consistent, while Merone in particular is boxed in by weak character development. Other performers are generally fine. Besides Condolucci, the film's other star is no doubt the cinematography of newcomer Lorenz Merz, which luxuriates in sun-dappled and penumbral settings and bronzed summer skin tones. It achieves a level of contrasts and detail that's rarely seen on HD films (shot here with the Red camera) and should catapult him to the top of the list of young lensers to work with in Euroland.Camera (color, HD-to-35mm), Lorenz Merz; editors, Colla, Didier Ranz; music, Bernd Schurer, Nikolaj Grandjean; production designers, Paola Genni, Martino Sulmoni, Andi Schraemli; costume designers, Daniela Verdenelli, Sara Facchini; sound (Dolby Digital), Juerg Lempen. Michael Fassbender Shares About 'Delving' Into Sexual Roles

For your two movies Michael Fassbender has being launched this fall, you'd think he'd have plenty of sex on his mind. After determining sexual issues in "A Dangerous Method," he assumes the role from the addict in "Shame." "I guess I've type of been diving inside it a little with a few metal manipulation between,Inch Fassbender told MTV News through the "Dangerous Method" press junket, referencing "X-Males: Top Quality. In . But Fassbender mentioned he didn't supply the parallels much thought when he was choosing his roles. "It's strange because I didn't even consider the two together. Once I take action, I'm inclined to allow it relaxation behind pretty quickly, but it's a very intense process for the time, filming and prep after which it it's to the following factor," he mentioned. "I kind of fix it away pretty fast and start the next factor, therefore i didn't even start to see the correspondence between 'A Dangerous Method' and 'Shame.'" Even though roles undertake two very contradictory dimensions, Fassbender mentioned that they're equally rewarding and challenging. "A Dangerous Method," particularly, offered the job of learning the dialogue from the First World War-era Vienna. "Christopher [Hampton] authored this very dense, articulate piece," Fassbender mentioned. "Again, I've type of mentioned this before, when you're dealing with that time period, using language and vocabulary and the way you handled yourself in the ability of discourse was major for anyone who is obtaining the academic world. You wouldn't survive without one.In . Dealing with people dialogue intensive scripts, like "A Dangerous Method," involves a particular method of Fassbender. "It's my job to think a script is kind of a little of music. Are searching for the tempos there,Inch he mentioned. "Nearly all my tasks are finished with the script anyway. I spend lots of time while using script in the two caser, however when you aren't doing the dialogue, more often than not there's an inside dialogue." Even though it may appear and appearance serious, Fassbender jokes that that's not the problem. "I'm thinking, so what can i've each morning tomorrow? It's like, wow, that's so intense. Barbara Fisher: 'Star Trek' 'Not inside the Same League' as 'Star Wars' (VIDEO)

William Shatner should have recognized to not wreak havoc on 'Star Wars.' In September, Captain Kirk was asked for to weigh in round the 'Star Trek' versus. 'Star Wars' debate. Not merely one to mince words, Shatner belittled (half-amusingly -- we feel) having less associations in 'Star Wars' in addition to needed a try at Princess Leia, stating that "as beautiful as she was to ensure that as wonderful an actress [Barbara Fisher] is, she can't rival the wonderful heroines we'd on 'Star Trek.'" Fisher's response in iii ... two ... -.. "They aren't inside the same league," Fisher shared with her friend Abe Gurko in the video released on Carrie's YouTube account the other day. "Klingon, that merely appears just like a laundry detergent." Clearly, she, doesn't quit there. Fisher hates round the cheesy effects in 'Star Trek,' then handles to poke fun at William Shatner's health problems and, um, male parts. The most effective insult is available in the conclusion, when Barbara compares your camera and notifies fans: "If you see Bill Shatner, phone him Han Solo." Yep, she visited. Verge Flashback: Katie O'Grady Set to Shock and Awe in Rid of Me

It was almost seven months ago, in my preparations for the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, that I was sent a film called Rid of Me, director James Westby’s curious hybrid of psychological drama and pitch-black comedy that, if there’s any justice, should make actress Katie O’Grady a star. And now that it’s making its way into limited theatrical release, viewers outside the festival circuit can find out why. Rid of Me features O’Grady as Meris, a mousy homemaker transplanted out of California when her husband Mitch (John Keyser) nabs a big job in his small Oregon hometown. Greeted coolly at best by his preppy, past-dwelling high school friends and their wives, Meris suffers a gradual breakdown that culminates in her divorce from Mitch and a meandering, nihilistic — and often hilariously unsettling — journey of self-discovery. The film is in keeping with Film Geek and The Auteur — Westby’s previous tales of outcasts regrouping under an intense social glare — yet turns the page on those protagonists thanks in large part to O’Grady’s intrepid physical shape-shifting. She’s all in as Meris, literally from an opening scene as bold (and no doubt polarizing) as any faced by this year’s Tribeca audiences. Don’t walk out, though; Rid of Me keeps it real in only the best ways. Movieline caught up with O’Grady to discuss the film, her accidental producing gig, how Meris changed her, and the art of paralyzing awkwardness done right. I know you’ve been at this for a while, but this is pretty big role. Do you feel poised for a breakthrough? I think it would be really nice to keep doing great work, and get great roles. That’s for sure. As far as a breakthrough, I don’t really have any control over that. I’m just doing what I can to keep making it about the work. That’s the way I’m looking at it. But: We would love as many people to see this movie as possible. For me, getting to play a character like Meris, you just really want people to experience her after spending so much time in her shoes. What’s your background — especially as it pertains to splitting your time between Los Angeles and Portland? That’s kind of unusual. It’s very unusual. I was told when I first started acting in Portland that you couldn’t be an actress and live in Portland, Oregon. I thought that was an awesome challenge to try and beat. And you can be an actor and live other places now. It’s so much easier. But most of my work is in Portland. It’s a city I love and want to live in, and I have to go down to L.A. for meetings and auditions sometimes. Mostly my work is [in Portland], because you try to take the projects that come along. When L.A. comes to Portland, I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of some of those projects. I think that more and more people are getting to live in other cities and experience the quality of life that they want to have and pursue their art. That’s been the best part for me, for sure. Is there a film scene in Portland? You’d be surprised at the incredible film community in Portland. It’s strong; it’s a force to be reckoned with. The folks there are really interested in art, and they’re interested in expressing it in their own way. There’s a great film commission and film board there. A lot of people in the community are really focused on supporting art, so when you do something, you can get quite a following and quite a turnout with local art lovers who want to check out your work. I think that’s pretty unique to Portland, and it’s one of the reasons I love to work there. How did you and James Westby start to collaborate? I worked with him on The Auteur; I had a small role in that, and I traveled with him and the film as it went to Tribeca, London, then to L.A. and what not. I just really love his work. I’ve always loved his work. I saw Film Geek in a dark theater by myself one time, and I fell in love with his expression. And also his quirky, offbeat sense of humor. He’s not interested in mainstream so much as is in pushing buttons and finding out what people are not supposed to be saying. That’s something that interested me a lot. I read his film Rid of Me, and he didn’t actually have me in mind for the role of Meris. He had me in mind for the preppy, man-stealing… whore. [Laughs] Briann, played by Storm Large, who did a fantastic job. That character. I had do some serious work to change his mind, and that included doing everything I could to produce the movie and get it up and running — and fight to play Meris. Had you produced before? No. I hadn’t produced before. I’m pretty bossy, and I know what I want, and I just went after it. I was lucky to work with James, who — being an indie filmmaker — had done a lot of things by himself. He kind of gave me the encouragement that I could do it. I found myself hunting down film permits and hiring SAG actors, which was really the hardest part, I found, of making the film. I did location scouting. It just kind of unfolded little by little, and I found myself doing the job and loving it. And now I’ve produced a couple of other projects of his since. I just fell in love the idea of producing and getting to have a voice in what’s out there. From a producing standpoint, it’s not the thing I want to do — acting is. But I also can see that I will producing alongside acting for a long time.

News Corp.: Review in Australia Found No Evidence of Phone Hacking

NY - Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. said Monday that a three-month review at its major newspapers in Australia has found "no evidence of illegitimate telephone surveillance or payments to public officials." In a number of cases where private investigators were used, staff and companies were asked to provide written assurances that this work was neither illegal, nor illegitimate, the company said. Plus, the review investigated claims by two people, who came forward after the U.K. scandal, saying they suspected staff had hacked their phones, it added. "In these cases, the staff involved in each of the stories were extensively interviewed and no evidence was found to support the claims," News Corp. said. The review was commissioned by retiring News Limited chairman and CEO John Hartigan in the aftermath of the U.K. phone hacking scandal that hit the conglomerate this summer. "The review's findings provide the strongest possible support for News Limited's assertion that its editorial staff have not commissioned the kind of illegitimate surveillance or payments that have come to light in the U.K.," the company said. It said it would, however, make some changes to safeguard standards of conduct. News Corp.'s Australian business will, for example, adopt a single code of conduct across all its editorial operations and "further strengthen the approval process for any use of private investigators," it said. Plus, editorial staff will have to renew their knowledge of the code of conduct every year. The new code will include specific comments on the use of private investigators. Under the new language, unless there are exceptional circumstances, journalists will carry out their own inquiries and investigations, according to the company.Plus, the use of private investigators "must be confined to work which checks, verifies or establishes facts in support of the fundamental requirement for accuracy in our journalism." The editor, divisional head and the group editorial director must approve the use of investigators. Plus, investigators must "provide a written assurance that they will not engage in illegitimate surveillance," the company said. "I said at the start of this process I had no reason to suspect any wrongdoing," said Hartigan. "An incredibly diligent piece of work has confirmed that. Nevertheless we will use this opportunity to put in place measures to further reinforce our standards." The Australian review used a team of 26 auditors and collected data on nearly 685,000 transactions over a five-year period, it said. All cash transactions over $100 and all transactions over $10,000 were checked, according to the firm. More than 28,000 transactions were risk assessed individually and of these 2,321 were examined in detail, the firm said. The newspapers reviewed were The Australian and Weekend Australian, The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph, The Herald Sun, The Sunday Herald Sun, The Courier-Mail and The Sunday Mail in Queensland, The Advertiser and The Sunday Mail in South Australia and The Sunday Times in Western Australia. Staff and outside service providers were questioned and interviewed in the process, News Corp. said. Retired judges Frank Vincent and Bernard Teague independently assessed the review's methodology and findings. Australia-based director Peter Barnes oversaw the process for News Corp.'s board's governance committee. Items as small as milk for tea rooms and as large as payments for editorial columnists and news wires were examined, validated and documented by the audit teams, News Corp. said. Veterans for action

Alexander PayneBruce RobinsonLynne Ramsay Clint Eastwood births one film every year. Woodsy Allen is constantly pop them out like the Duggar family. And carrying out a three-year break, Steven Spielberg will deliver not merely one, but two pointing automobiles in the finish of December.Though some honours-season regulars are maintaining a plentiful pace, other decorated helmers -- Terrence Malick ("The Tree of Existence"), Alexander Payne ("The Descendants"), Lynne Ramsay ("We must Discuss Kevin"), Bennett Burns ("Moneyball") and Bruce Robinson ("The Rum Diary") incorporated within this -- stand out for your well-spread records inside their filmographies. Whether absence helps to make the heart grow fonder would depend round the talent. When Malick returned to action 2 decades after "Occasions of Paradise" (1978) with "The Thin Red-colored-colored Line," his status had opted beyond cult to legend, doubtlessly due in no small measure with a reclusiveness that can make J.D. Salinger proud. The finish result was an Academy that welcomed Malick to the fold, rewarding the enigmatic artist along with his initial few Oscar nominations, for writing and pointing.Even though six-year gap between Malick's "The Tree of Existence," which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, and also the previous pointing effort, "The " " New World " "," marks a somewhat rapid follow-up, gossips are actually swirling a great roots-of-the-world project mounted on Malick dating back to the eighties. For Payne, Ramsay and Burns, the area had much associated with aborted projects. Nine years passed between Ramsay's previous pointing effort, "Morvern Caller," and "Kevin," with numerous people years spent developing Alice Sebold's novel "The Lovely Bones." The Scottish author-director, who initially held the option on Sebold's dark drama read having a wiped out girl, began penning the script just before the author's manuscript was finished."I used to be on my own path while using script when the book increased being an worldwide best-seller," recalls Ramsay. "I quickly felt pressurized to produce a really literal translation, which i didn't think it could behave as a film, therefore i left the project."Jackson infamously needed on "Lovely Bones," which increased being an pricey CG-heavy adaptation, while Ramsay segued to "Kevin," a project that needed four years and was nearly derailed when the film's budget was slashed from $12 million to $6.5 million due to the world recession."It absolutely was very complicated to produce on less money since it spanned over 17 years with four versions of Kevin in the baby with a teen," notes Ramsay in the film, which concentrates on mother from the teenage boy who embarks around the high-school killing spree. "I desired to operate for the bone and be inventive and economical making it work. The film was prepared in a inch of the existence after we had only four weeks to shoot with costume changes and limited several hours with children." Variety referred to as film "exquisitely recognized" at Cannes.Similarly, Burns got taken on the project that was eventually shelved. After his effective collaboration with Philip Seymour Hoffman on "Capote" in 2005 the two began developing "Foxcatcher," a film about troubled scion John du Pont."I really could not suppose it was not likely to occur,Inch states Burns, who spent a long time round the pic before conceding defeat. "It absolutely was a genuine find it hard to find something worthy but that could go for started.InchThe next project, "Moneyball," touts the finest score on Metacritic.com, 87, of current releases.Payne spent many of the six years since the relieve "Sideways" -- which received five Oscar nominations plus a screenwriting statuette for Payne -- coping with his Ad Hominem partners Jim Taylor and Jim Burke round the epic "Downsizing," that involves a lesser-on-his-luck guy who decides he could have a better existence if he undergoes a process to contract themselves."Thinking about the truth that creating 'Downsizing' can be a animal, I coaxed (Payne) into doing 'Descendants,' " states the film's producer Burke, who optioned the manuscript for "Descendants" five years ago. "I probably asked for him 40 occasions. But he needed to locate their very own personal link to the material.InchAs soon as Payne did, the film was cast and began shooting within several days. At Telluride, where it opened up in September, the film's right-to-die written content was known to by Variety as handled "together with your sensitivity it's hardly noticeable you're being enlightened while entertained."Though "Tree of Existence" showed up in the bigscreen faster when compared to a typical Malick outing, the director remains collecting images for your film for more than ten years. The primary one-time Durch professor consulted with world-famous academics to know the science behind the expansion in the world, the film signifies."All along, Malick was searching for the Tao, that completely unpredicted phenomena, people magical unforeseen moments that nobody might design," states effects maven Douglas Trumbull ("2001: A Place Journey"), with whom Malick consulted.Meanwhile, Robinson's 20-year hiatus is due to the fact he outdated from pointing. Vidgame advertisements use live action

'The Elder Skrolls V: Skyrim'Fall for videogame marketers is much like summer time for Hollywood galleries -- a season of blockbusters based on massive marketing campaigns. Yet with each game competing for attention, getting observed is harder than ever before. This is exactly why it will help to employ a dragon-slayer. For Bethesda Softworks' fantasy game "The Elder Skrolls V: Skyrim," out November. 11, the organization chose to make a live action commercial where a warrior, with harsh determination, comfortably walks past throngs of panicked citizens of the medieval village to battle a dragon that's menacing them.Helmed by Alexei Tylevich, the place is unusual for a game title release: most advertisements typically feature CG-animated sequences edited around shots of game play. But Bethesda worried that type of ad would explore the clutter of other videogame advertisements. In the end, the overall game is facing off against heavyweight game titles for example Activision's "Cod: Modern Warfare 3," EA's "Battleground 3," WB's "Batman: Arkham City" and Sony's "Uncharted 3" that boast bigger marketing budgets. Bethesda will still unveil a classical ad nearer to the game's launch, however the live action place was created like a "mood piece" that taken the motion picture facets of the overall game that will play well on television and rapidly "catch your attention," states Pete Hines, Bethesda's Vice president of selling and communications. The scope from the ad certainly does. Lensed at Prague's Barrandov Galleries over 72 hours, the development involved a lot more than 100 extra supplies and eight stuntmen. Commercial house Logan (that has produced advertisements for Apple, Toyota along with other game franchises like "Metal Gear," in addition to "Zombieland's" opening credits), created the "Skyrim" place and also the digital dragon.Although Bethesda rejected to reveal your budget from the ad, the place ended up costing comparable, otherwise rather less, than the usual commercial heavy on CG-animated sequences, the organization states. It's 60-, 30- and 20-second versions airing.Your time and effort has compensated off when it comes to buzz. Because the "Skyrim" place began airing on television an internet-based, the interest it's produced across internet sites and Twitter has surprised Bethesda. It's been seen nearly a million occasions online since March. 24.Online chatter has in comparison the ad's design using the second season of HBO's "Bet on Thrones." "If people state that appears like 'Game of Thrones,' we are in the best place when it comes to mood and vibe and tone," Hines states. "In the event that's the sense we are departing, this is a positive thing instead of, 'That should be for any newer and more effective videogame,'?" a stress response which frequently plagues other game campaigns.Bethesda is hardly the very first gamemaker to make use of shot footage to assist sell its games. The new sony presently includes a memorable ad featuring live action versions of figures from the Ps franchises collected inside a bar, while Microsoft introduced its "Halo: Achieve" and "Halo 3" campaigns to existence with short films that target the figures, plot and styles from the games they are marketing.Bethesda really wants to stress individuals same elements in the live action place, wishing auds will themselves because the hero fighting dragons. "Individuals are searching for different methods for getting their message across instead of thirty seconds of footage from the overall game, a logo design along with a box shot," Hines states. "If everyone's doing that, you must do different things.Inch Contact Marc Graser at marc.graser@variety.com
