Lynne Ramsay to direct sci-fi version of Moby Dick
Lynne Ramsay, director of We Have To Discuss Kevin, told Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo on 5Live's film reveal that her next movie will be a sci-fi undertake Moby Dick.Ramsay had suggested that her next project may well be a sci-fi, but it was still an unpredicted, but enjoyable, surprise.Thinking about Ramsay's work has a powerful focus on character, period and placement, it is really an intriguing move. From the project she told 5Live: "It's pretty much inspired by Moby Dick, the industry fantastic novel, a united states classic, but funnily enough many people haven't see clearly. So I am focusing on something loosely according to that. And it is sci-fi, so we are using the premise in to the universe."So we are developing a whole " new world ", along with a new alien. A really mental piece, mainly happening within the ship, a little like Das Boot, therefore it is quite claustrophobic."Ramsay also suggested in the mental part of the story, and came an evaluation with filmmaking: "It's another monster movie, cos the monster's Ahab. For any filmmaker, it is interesting, since it is relating to this mad captain taking everybody about this crazy journey for their dying, from his have to revenge."Creating a film is sort of a crazy journey, and often you decide to go into dark waters, and also you see some casualties on the way. It's fascinating stuff, due to there being a lot inside it.InchYou can view the whole video from the interview below (because of The Playlist for that heads-up):We Have To Discuss Kevin is within movie theaters now.
